Network and Server Operations Engineer

ideacode seeks a Network and Operations Engineer who is an expert with LAMP stack servers and operations of VirtualBox virtual machine-based networks.

THIS IS AN ON-GOING CONTRACT POSITION.

Duties

1. To oversee continuous operation of ideacode network operations
2. To monitor server logs for improper operation or compromise
3. To purchase necessary hardware
4. To repair faulty hardware in servers
5. To build and install new servers according to ideacode design
6. To recommend and maintain optimal network organization and components
7. To be on-call 24x7x365 for outages

Requirements

1. Proficient in administration of Gentoo Linux servers
2. Knowledgeable of commodity computer hardware based on AMD Opteron chipset
3. Proficient in administration of VirtualBox 2 & 3 guests
4. At least (a) Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering OR LPIC-2 or equivalent certification AND (b) 3 years Linux server administration
5. Ability to respond (electronically) within 15 minutes of outage
6. Located in the Triangle, NC
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferences

1. Familiar with installation of Microsoft and Apple guests
2. Ability to travel nationally

Position requires approximately: (a) one hour per week for monitoring network operations, (b) an additional 4 hours per quarter for server maintenance, and (c) an additional 20 hours throughout the year for various operational tasks. Position may require travel nationally during business weeks.

Competitive wage commensurate with experience. Incident wage and per-diem offered for on-call events.
