Welcome to the official homepage of the GNU ICQ-compatible Server.

gicqd (GNU ICQ Daemon) is the basis for a portable, generic daemon body that contains - as plugable functions - the ICQ protocol. Our design, while constructed on the ICQ protocol, can be used by anyone needing to get a daemon process of any kind up and running with minimal effort. Overall, our goals for this server are manyfold, including extensibility, configurability, localization, internationalization and, most importantly, freedom of code.

You will find here all of our output, all of our sources of information, and ways in which you can help the project. Volunteers are always welcome, as are donations of hardware, pizza and beer.

Please subscribe to the gicqd mailing list to drop in on the development chatter. An archive is available of previous messages!

Important News: (29 Sep 1999)
Because of the problems with the V2 protocol, and Bishop and I not having enough time to perform the requisite analysis to decode packets, we're going to halt further development of V2 and begin implementation of V5. Yes, that means in about a month newer clients (e.g. ICQ99a/98) will work with gicqd. We hope that this will solve everyone's woes. After V5 is completed, work will begin to incorporate the AIM protocol.
